Nimmo® Receptor-Tonus / Deep-Tissue Muscle Technique

At Diamond Bar Spine Center, spinal decompression is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Different spinal conditions, body types and levels of pain may require different approaches. Following an evaluation, Dr. George W. Than may select or combine several conservative techniques to help decrease mechanical stress, improve spinal mobility, address muscular tension and restore function.

Nimmo® Receptor-Tonus / Deep-Tissue Muscle Technique

Not all back and neck pain originates solely from the discs or joints. Muscles and other soft tissues can become tight, tender and painful and may contribute to altered movement patterns.

The Nimmo Receptor-Tonus Technique is a focused manual soft-tissue approach associated with the work of Dr. Raymond Nimmo. Dr. Than uses targeted pressure and deep-tissue techniques to address areas of muscular tension and tenderness identified during examination.

This component of treatment may be used to:

For appropriate patients, addressing the muscular component of a spinal condition can be an important part of a broader functional recovery program.

Why We Use More Than One Approach

A disc problem seen on an MRI does not automatically tell us which treatment a patient needs.

Two people can have similar MRI findings and experience very different symptoms and functional limitations. That is why Dr. Than begins with an evaluation rather than automatically placing every patient on the same decompression machine.

Depending upon the findings, care may incorporate Cox Flexion-Distraction, Antalgic-Trak spinal decompression, intersegmental mobilization, targeted Nimmo soft-tissue treatment, MediTrac therapy and individualized therapeutic exercise.

The objective is to select the appropriate combination of conservative treatments for the individual patient.

Evaluation First. Treatment Second.

Our philosophy is simple: understand the condition, determine whether conservative care is appropriate, and then develop a treatment strategy around the patient—not around a machine.
