Meet Dr. George W. Than, D.C., Q.M.E.

Four Decades of Experience in Spine, Musculoskeletal and Disability Evaluation

Dr. George Than

Founder & Chiropractor | 40+ Years of Experience

For more than 40 years, Dr. George W. Than has dedicated his professional career to evaluating and treating musculoskeletal and spinal conditions.

A 1985 graduate of the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, Dr. Than completed internships at the Whittier Health Clinic and Salvation Army in Los Angeles before beginning clinical practice. His early professional experience included work with the International Sports Medicine Institute, followed by decades of private practice.

In 1994, Dr. Than became a California Qualified Medical Evaluator (Q.M.E.) and a Certified Industrial Disability Evaluator. For more than three decades, he has performed detailed medical-legal evaluations involving injuries, spinal disorders, functional impairment, disability and complex questions of causation. His professional experience has also included independent medical examinations, trial testimony, preparation of AMA impairment reports, and serving as a supervising doctor in a teaching facility associated with the Southern California University of Health Sciences.

A Different Approach to Non-Surgical Spine Care

After decades of evaluating patients with neck, back and musculoskeletal conditions, Dr. Than has increasingly focused his clinical practice on a fundamental question:

Can this patient be helped conservatively before more invasive treatment is considered?

At Diamond Bar Spine Center, patients with chronic neck and lower-back pain, sciatica, degenerative disc conditions, disc bulges and herniations can receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether they may be appropriate candidates for non-surgical care.

Dr. Than’s approach is deliberately evaluation-first. He does not believe every patient with back pain needs spinal decompression—or that every abnormality appearing on an MRI is necessarily the source of a patient’s symptoms.

Instead, the patient’s history, symptoms, physical examination, functional limitations and available diagnostic studies are considered together before recommendations are made.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression & Functional Recovery

When clinically appropriate, a personalized conservative treatment program may incorporate non-surgical spinal decompression, Class IV laser therapy, therapeutic modalities and functional rehabilitation strategies.

The objective is not simply to treat an MRI finding. The objective is to help the patient reduce pain, improve mobility and function, and return to the activities that matter to them whenever reasonably possible.

Dr. Than also believes that patients should understand their condition. Medical terminology and imaging reports can make an already difficult situation unnecessarily frightening. Part of a thorough evaluation is explaining what the findings mean, what treatment options may be available, and what can realistically be expected from conservative care.

Experience Matters. So Does Listening.

After four decades in practice, Dr. Than’s philosophy remains straightforward:

Understand the patient. Understand the condition. Then determine the most appropriate path forward.

For patients concerned about persistent neck or back pain—or those searching for conservative alternatives before considering more invasive procedures—Diamond Bar Spine Center offers an experienced, thoughtful approach to non-surgical spine care and functional recovery.
